Monique Knightley
Silver Lining Studio
Monique Knightley is a painter and visual artist working mainly in acrylics and mixed media. She is fascinated by the play of light in nature, and strives to create texture, both visual and physical in her work.
Monique grew up in small towns all across Canada., and counts her lucky stars to have landed and made Victoria, BC her home. The curveballs life threw have resulted in a new love and appreciation for art as a form of expression.
She participated in many workshops, adoring the work of Laura Harris and Ken Faulks, but struggling to find her own artistic vision and confidence.
It was Kelly, Monique’s adorable adopted dog, who provided the courage Monique needed to finally paint the abstracts she so wanted to paint. At a painting workshop with Brian Atyeo, Monique managed to capture the exact expression that only Kelly could make. The knowledge that she could paint realistically …. made realism unnecessary.
Instead, Monique has given herself over to the colour, mood, forms, and textures of abstracts inspired by nature and the world and light around her.
“There is a crack, a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in”
